Hi.
I'm Katey Zara-Smith and I currently teach Contemporary History in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at Eastside High School in Gainesville, Florida. At the encouragement of a colleague (who was a then-current TGC fellow) and out of my desire to incorporate more deliberate global presence into my teaching, I applied for, and was fortunate enough to be awarded, an IREX Teachers for Global Classrooms fellowship for the 2016-2017 school year. This site, KZS in Colombia, is the culmination of the work and travel I have done in conjunction with TGC. It has been an incredible experience and to say that it has changed my teaching would be an understatement. It is my hope that the resources, guides and blog posts of my time spent in Colombia will help underscore the need for increased global awareness, as well as offer guidance and assistance in incorporating this mindset in the classroom.
